If you’ve ever worn glasses or contacts, then you’d know how much of a hassle they
can be sometimes – even more so when you’ve only just got them, and are trying to
get yourself used to wearing them all the time. What if there was a simpler way of

Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK for short) is a surgical procedure that
involves precise lasers to modify the internal structure of the cornea, or the
transparent covering of the eye that lets us see. It’s quick, bloodless and

The first step is to create a small flap on the outer layer of the cornea. This is
either done by a precise laser beam, or a small metal blade. As you can imagine,
getting the laser beam as the cutting tool is definitely a lot less scary, but both
methods have proven to be no less painful than the prick of a syringe.
The next step involves folding the flap back and letting the laser do its work on
the revealed layer of the cornea. This ‘remodeling’ fixes whatever deformities there
are in the cornea itself, and correcting vision.
The third step is clean-up. The flap is then folded back into place, and
post-operative care begins. The entire process takes little more than one session.
Little to no pain is involved in the actual process of LASIK. The only uncomfortable
part about it is the creation and the opening of the flap, but even then you’ll be
given a mild sedative to make sure you feel no pain at all. A suction process is
used to ensure that your eye doesn’t move during the actual surgery, and even then,
the laser itself is smart enough to re-adjust itself for your every move. After
LASIK surgery, you are at risk to little or no complications, so long as you
carefully follow doctor’s instructions.
Well, first off, you have to check with a qualified LASIK vision institute to see if
you are a good qualified candidate. You’ll usually be instructed to refrain from
smoking and limit your alcohol treatment, as well as notify them about any allergies
and regular medication. If you wear contact lenses, you will be asked to wear your
glasses for a minimum of a week. You’ll also be instructed to stop using any cosmetic
effects of any kind (lotions, creams, powder) a day before the surgery. This is to
minimize any chance of foreign materials getting into the surgery area to avoid
